Closing remarks

If you’d like to check out Dan Hill’s new album it’s called On the Other Side of Here. There’s also a book he’s written dedicated to his late father to whom he didn’t speak for many years. It’s titled “I Am My Father’s Son (a memoir of love and forgiveness).

If you haven’t heard of 40-year-old Brandi Carlisle, you might have been living under a rock. She’s a prolific songwriter with a powerful, soaring voice who created a huge buzz in 2005 with her debut album. In 2018 she received six Grammy nominations and took home three of them. This week she has a new single out, the video of which was directed by her friend Courteney Cox – from the TV series, Friends.

Remember the Raspberries and their lead singer and major songwriter- Eric Carmen? He’s turning 72 this week. Eric grew up in a Russian Jewish immigrant family in Ohio and was proclaimed a child music prodigy at the age of 3. He’s a self-taught guitarist who enjoyed a stellar solo career during the 80’s, after he split with the Raspberries. After a brief sell-out reunion with the band in 2004 Eric hasn’t toured since 2009, preferring to work on his own, writing music for others. He married a Los Angeles newscaster some years ago and despite my efforts to track him down, he still refuses to give interviews.  His most famous song just about says it all, really.

INXS were one of the highest achieving bands of the Aussie rock scene, INXS. On the birthday list this week, the band’s Farriss brothers, Jon and Tim. They were born in Perth, with guitarist, Tim the elder of the two turning 64 and Jon, the band’s drummer turning 60. The third Farriss brother Andrew was also a part of INXS and the family formed the core of the band since its foundation in 1979. Unfortunately, in 2015, Tim Farriss severed a finger whilst operating a winch on his boat. He underwent surgery to attempt to reattach it but has been unable to continue his musical career. INXS was the second Australian band to reach Number 1 on the US singles chart after Men at work.
